Dr. Nan Hu

Piano

Dr. Nan Hu is a pianist and chamber musician. She has been playing the piano since the age of 5 and attended the Affiliated High School of Xinghai Conservatory of Music, studying under Professor Ping Lin. Nan received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and Mannes School of Music and studied under professors Jacqueline Tang, Keng Zhou, and Jerome Rose. In 2022, she entered the University of Kansas on a full scholarship to pursue her doctoral degree in musical arts while serving as a graduate teaching assistant. She graduated and received her degree with a 4.0 GPA and honors in 2025. Nan also holds the Piano Pedagogy Cognate from the University of Kansas.

Her outstanding performance at the 25th “Citta di Barletta” International Competition was recognized, and she received a second prize. Her awards also include the gold prize at the ‘KAWAI’ Piano Competition and the crystal award at the ‘Sauter’ Piano Competition. Semi-finalist at the Suzana Szorenyi International Duo Piano Competition in Bucharest, Romania.

Nan served as an assistant of Professor Keng Zhou and the International Piano Festival of the Shanghai Conservatory since 2012. As a collaborative pianist, Nan accompanied both instruments and vocals and also performed chamber concerts in different countries. Nan Hu and her partner, Dr. Jianan Xu, started to perform piano duet in 2016, dedicated to promoting different musical formats alongside piano duet performances all over the world, offering audiences a distinctive musical experience. Nan and Jianan have presented numerous duet concerts in the United States, China, and Romania. They also recorded online courses designed for young students in piano duet performance.
