Marlon Barrios is a Costa Rican violinist known for his musical sensitivity and expressive playing. Currently based in Texas, he is a student at the University of North Texas, where he studies violin under the guidance of the esteemed Julia Bushkova. His artistry has been recognized both nationally and internationally, with accolades including First Prize at the prestigious Lutine Prize competition.
Before moving to the United States, Marlon received rigorous training at the Guildhall School of Music in London, studying with respected mentors such as Ivo Stankov and Peter Esswood. His diverse musical background and international experience have shaped him into a well-rounded musician with a deep understanding of both technique and interpretation.
As a teacher, Marlon is known for his gentle, encouraging, and highly musical approach. He emphasizes the importance of tone production, phrasing, and emotional expression from the very beginning of a student’s training. His lessons are thoughtfully structured to develop not only technical proficiency but also a genuine love for the instrument. Marlon believes in meeting students where they are and nurturing their growth with patience and inspiration, making him especially effective with young learners and beginners.
