Runsheng Zhao

Guitar

Runsheng Zhao is a versatile jazz guitarist with extensive expertise in arranging, composing, and performing across a wide range of musical genres. His diverse skill set allows him to adapt his teaching methods to suit the unique learning styles of his students, utilizing visual aids and mnemonic techniques to enhance understanding. Runsheng is dedicated to fostering student growth through patient, engaging, and personalized instruction, making him a highly effective and impactful educator.

Runsheng is holding a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of North Texas and currently pursuing his master degree. He also holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Xi'An Jiaotong University in China, which he completed in 2018. His academic achievements are complemented by his active participation in various ensembles at UNT, including the Four O’Clock Lab Band, where he has provided foundational rhythm support since 2023. In this role, he has demonstrated versatility and precision across different styles, significantly contributing to the success of the band’s projects and performances.

From 2021 to 2023, Runsheng was a key member of the L5 Jazz Guitar Ensemble, a five-piece guitar ensemble at UNT. His role involved arranging pieces for group performances, which were showcased in successful events both on campus and at the Denton Art & Jazz Festival. Prior to his focus on music, Runsheng spent a year as an English teacher in Chengdu, China, where he delivered tailored instruction in reading, writing, and IELTS preparation. His engaging and personalized teaching approach earned him high praise from students and their families, enhancing student retention and success.

In recognition of his musical talents and academic dedication, Runsheng has been awarded the COM Bob Rober Jazz Studies Scholarship and the COM Town of Addison Jazz Scholarship. His combination of musical expertise, educational commitment, and diverse experiences positions him as a promising figure in the world of jazz education.
